The function of air receiver
is to
provide storage capacity to prevent
rapid compressor cycling
reduce wear and tear on compression
module, inlet control system, and motor
eliminate pulsing air flow
avoid overloading purification system
with surges in air demand
Damp out the dew point and temperature
spikes that follow regeneration.
A rule of thumb for working pressures of 6 to 7 bar and 9 to 10
bar is to provide a minimum of 8 to 9 litres and 6 to 7 litres of
receiver capacity respectively, for every litre of compressor air
flow per second for better performance of the system.
In case of automatic starting and stopping of the drive motor regulated
by the pressure, a large receiver volume is necessary. A receiver
which is too small for this type of operation creates the risk of
too high a starting frequency. This may damage not only the motor
circuit breaker contacts but also the motor windings. The instantaneous
consumption should not exceed the compressor plant flow rate.
